Research Interests
Broadly, I am interested in regeneration ecology, forest stand dynamics, disturbance ecology, and how people affect forested ecosystems.
Currently, I am working on the Flambeau Experiment looking at the effects of experimental gap formation on woody vegetation dynamics.
More specifically, I am interested in how the advanced regeneration in and around gaps and gap border trees respond to gap formation.
The goal of my research is to provide land managers insight into the short-term dynamics of woody vegetation in second-growth northern hardwood stands experimentally manipulated to resemble "old-growth" forests.
On the Lighter Side
I enjoy being outside, hiking, volunteer prairie/savanna restoration, traveling in the American Southwest, and long walks in the woods.
I also enjoy reading, cooking, spending time with my wife, Sarah, and really good local micro-brews.
