The missions of the laboratory are to:

1. 1.Elucidate the environmental and ecological controls on the carbon budgets of terrestrial ecosystems at scales ranging from the stand to the globe;
   

2. 2.Quantify the carbon emissions of goods derived from biological ecosystems and produced in industrial ecosystems, and identify opportunities to reduce carbon footprint.
